Josh's Message - Christ crucified

The goal of this website is to strengthen believers in their confidence that Israel's God is going to do everything that he has promised. That assurance can be summed up by Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 2:2 and Galatians 6:14:

"For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."

"But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ"

Josh holds to a standard Evangelical statement of faith and has several specific biblical interests. The ministry of Joshua Hawkins is to strengthen your conviction in:

  • The glory of Jesus - Jesus of Nazareth is the one true God, the sole creator and sustainer of all, the God of Israel made flesh. He is the Jewish messiah promised to Israel who will sit on the throne of David in Jerusalem as the nation's king. By him, through him, and for him, God will restore Jerusalem and regather Israel just as the prophets spoke, fulfilling all the words of the covenants he made with his chosen people Israel.
  • The cross of Jesus - The brutal execution of Israel's messiah on a Roman cross ought to be the highest boast of every believer. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God confirmed his enduring faithfulness to Israel's covenants. In light of the coming redemption of Israel and restoration of all things, repentance and faith in Christ crucified will be the only boast of every believer on the day he comes to judge.
  • The theology of suffering before glory - The cross is a disciple's invitation to imitation. Just as Israel's messiah suffered, so will his followers suffer before entering into the glory of the age to come in the kingdom, resurrection, and restoration of all creation. This suffering is for a witness of God's patience and plea for repentance first towards His wayward people Israel and to then all of sinful humanity.
  • The Day of the LORD - The Law, Prophets, and writings of Jesus' apostles continually testified to a climactic, future day that the God of Israel would vindicate his great name in the sight of all of the nations by regathering Israel to her land and purging the earth of unrighteousness just as he did at Noah's flood. This future day, known throughout the scriptures as the Day of the Lord, will be the "dividing line" of human history as it was in the days of Noah. Until that day, the Lord is restraining from judgment in hope that humanity would repent and turn to him in reliance and trust.
  • The kingdom of God - The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob promised that he would establish a geopolitical kingdom in Israel that would crush every other kingdom, and that his appointed messiah would righteously rule every nation from the city of Jerusalem. Jesus of Nazareth has been shown to be the that king from David's line by the resurrection from the dead. This wholly future, earthly kingdom is the sure hope of all those who count God as reliable and trustworthy to his words.
  • The resurrection of the body - The certain hope of every believer is that the curse of death would be overturned in a physical, bodily resurrection to live eternally on this earth with God. Jesus of Nazareth, the "firstfruits" of that resurrection, gives the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of that future glory. The move of the Holy Spirit in power as seen through signs, wonders, and miracles testifies to that coming Day.
  • The biblical worldview - As athletes must understand the rules, players, playing field, and strategy of the game they are playing, so must believers rightly understand the heavens and the earth, the sovereign rulership of God over His creation, and the role of missions in proclamation and witness to the wicked until the Day of the Lord. Understanding the biblical worldview rightly keeps believers from discouragement and disillusionment, anchors hope fully on the return of Jesus, and empowers to live as sojourners and pilgrims awaiting his return.
